Robos with artificial intelligence, a viable option or not?| Techbate| Rajat Gupta

AGAINST!

Though I do like robots in a way that they make life easier, let me point out some disadvantages which robots, based on artificial intelligence. can pose.
Robots are very limited in their functionality. They can perform only specific tasks for which they are programmed.Unless they can self adapt like human-beings(which is a distant dream) I don't see a need to use them. And if they start self adapting, human race will be in danger because then survival of the fittest concept will come in place for sure. If Robots start, self learning, they wont want us, human-beings to control them.Definitely.
Anyways, I am particularly not much convinced about the idea of why we need robots. I mean, isn't unemployment enough a big problem? Or we want to increase unemployment by making robots do our work?
Do you have electricity in your houses 24*7? At least I don't? So, do you agree to waste energy charging your robots which can perform a very specific task, a task, which could also be performed by human-beings who don't require electricity? Its great if your robots are so developed that they can harness solar power or wind power or what not, I request you, please let me use that energy to charge my laptop so that I can multitask!
Construction and maintenance of Robots is a herculean task in itself and require highly skilled programmers. Though undoubtedly, with the accuracy of robots, few risks have been reduced, but with bringing robots to work with humans, new safety concerns have come into place.
I do remember a scene from a movie, where, inside a building, a robot saved the life of a girl from burning.Due to fire, her clothes burned off and he ended up bringing her outside nude. Ashamed of being publicly nude, the girl committed suicide right then. Is robot benefited here in any sense? Ya, It did save a girl from burning but its just so unemotional behavior made her commit suicide.
I, personally, am very much in favor of living my life independently. I do am dependent on my laptop, my cell phone, electricity, but asking someone to do my job is a bit too much dependency! No? A robot may be able to do my job with a bit more efficiency, but a job which I can do, I would like to continue doing it. Buying a highly priced Robot for that job, maintaining it, seems illogical to me. It makes me think of some more disadvantages.
Robots have a life span, after that, they cannot be used. so, ain't there enough waste disposal problem in world that we want to increase our problem of disposing mechanical waste of robots, with some hazardous undegradable metals, oils?
The implementation of robots with artificial intelligence, its requirements, the possibilities is an abstract and hypothetical task as of now. But if I get far-sighted, Robot hacking is also possible. Someone could use your robot against you easily, or short circuit some wires and make your robot do weird things! Going a bit on hilarious side, if I am cheating on my gf, and if she uses her discreet spy robot to see what's happening in my house, I will be dead the very same day!(i am not cheating on my gf anyway!). I love my privacy and I do not want to risk it in anyway.
I do want to mention, every new invention has a good thought behind it. Nuclear energy was developed to solve world's energy problems and not to make the world a fearful place to live with nuclear weapons developing everyday. Similarly, the idea behind using robots for making life easier is good but you never know when the 'criminal' side of it comes into existence.
I love dogs. My friend's dog bring newspaper to his bed everyday in the morning. The same a robotic dog do. But I don't get the point of using robotic dog. Is it because you don't want to give your dog to eat and keep him alive that you are buying a robotic dog? because as long as I know, Dogs are faithful. They love you, and more than just bringing your newspaper, you get emotionally attached to your pet.I am using this example to show that robots just diminish the concept of emotions.
Concluding, its great if we have robots as our slaves and we use them in limits, Over usage will only lead to over dependency and various problems like umemployment, waste disposal, new risks will come into light.
