A Blind Girl's Tale| English Story| Feelings| Neha Agrawal

Blind to the surroundings, to nature and its beauty; blinded by the smokes of cigarette and unconsciousness of alcohol, listlessness of drugs. A tiny dingy room, loitered with beer bottles, full of dusts of cigarette ashes. This was her world.

It was just another morning, yes it was daytime, she was sure for she could hear the most familiar word… disgrace, in the usual raucous tone. It was, indeed, just another day for her until she heard the unusual sound… a knock on her door followed by strange words in a man’s voice “I shall not harm you. Trust me.”… And she let him in… into her life.

He held her hands in her forlorn days, walked with her through the crowds. The world would mock at him, but he, never bothered. He took away the cigarette out of her life, the ethanol out of her bloodstream and dragged her out of her hallucinated world. Not much she could give him but he, was still happy.

An evening on the seaside… She waited on the rocks as he collected shells for her in the distant shore. Hours had passed by but he hadn’t returned. The people around told her that her stay was futile, he had left long back. But there was not a tinge of dismay in her mind. She patiently waited with a heart permeated with faith in her lover. Days passed by and nothing changed… neither her love for him nor his absence in her life. Before she had even realized she was blind yet again. This time… blind in his love.

Two years have passed by. She sits there in that same place, on the seaside, on those same rocks, admiring nature, its beauty (things alien to her some years back). The sun’s radiance casts a titian shadow over the entire horizon, birds are returning to their homes in clusters. In her mind she still can’t forgive herself for the way she had wrecked her life and she still doesn’t know why those hands which remained clutched in the darkest of nights slackened in grip, at the dawn. But, in her heart she knows that without being ‘blind’ it would never have felt the same… the strength she feels within and her love for her life.
