The Shield |English Article| Neha Agarwal

(you’ll never understand, you’ll never know)

The world will look with scornful eyes. Its a needle. It will prick. It will hurt.
The past will stalk. Its a ghost. It will haunt.
Failure is inevitable.Its a dagger.It will stab.It will kill.

But I bear the shield(you’ll never understand.you’ll nevr know).

The shield is scattered with small pores.“You are those scornful eyes which prick like a needle”. You presume you will penetrate through the tiny holes. But alas!! you are wrong…You get helplessly trapped within them.

The shield is opaque* and it can camouflage.”You are the ghost of the past which stalks, which haunts”.But you, poor creature, are unable to locate me, for I am concealed by the shield.Haunted you wanted me to be.In turn, lost you feel.

The shield is tough. It is composed of the strongest metals.”You are the inevitable failure”,unaware of shield’s strength. You strike the dagger at me with a massive force…I remain unscathed but your weapon is rendered damaged.

And the feature I love the most…a secret I have kept to myself uptil now.*The shield is partially opaque or tranparent…you(the scornful eyes, the past, the failure) can strain your eyes but it shall all be vain. But for me its all so limpid…The trapped needles helplessly crying out for help, the ghost of the past still wandering in search of me and the dagger’s broken edge fallen on the ground.

A joy I feel…A joy you’ll never understand,you’ll never know.

Once, long back…I too was hurt.I too felt lost.I too was killed.
But today I stand,risen from my grave…
…Bearing the shield you’ll never understand, you’ll never know.
