27th DECEMBER, 2011.........Owing to the christmas, new year week, the amusement park in the city was terribly crowded.Choosing the rides on the basis of the shorter length of the queues,we were finally left with “the pirate ship ride” as our last one.
Following the principles of inertia, the ride began its motion.I was enjoying, laughing,in flow with the increasing pace of the pirate ship. The ship was gradually moving higher and higher, but my laughter, had suddenly, died.I was no more interested in the ride.At that moment, something else fascinated me more,it was…”the world from the pirate ship ride”.
Everytime the ship moved skywards,I would gaze at the people scattered in the park.Families wandering about, children engrossed in random chasing games, colourful candies being waved in the air.I somehow began loving the crowd.Because of the distance,I couldn’t see the smiles but I could feel that they were happy.Everyone seemed to be happy. It appeared as a “perfectly happy world”.
Everytime the pirate ship descended downwards,my focus would drift from the multitude below to the people in front of me…and in this case I could see the smiles too.Three rows in front, amongst which I could see two of them..only the ones facing the direction opposite to mine.Kids in the nearer row were screaming at the top of their voices, cracking silly jokes and…in no time I found them bantering with my brother. In the farther row I could see love in one of its most pristine forms. While the lovely lady kept expressing her fear, the man by her side kept reminding her of his presence, and the comfort the lady felt was indubitably visible on her face.
The ride began slowing down.I did not want the ride to end.I did not want that “ideal world” to disappear…a world without tears and miseries,a world where one doesn’t need reasons to smile and laugh,a world where one doesn’t really need to know a person, judge him before deciding on sharing a few joyous moments with him,a world dominated by love. But…my wants were simply unreasonable. The ship soon came to a halt.My brother waved “goodbye” to his ephemeral friends and we then headed towards the exit of the amusement park.
Hardly had we stepped out of the park, when my brother ran towards the balloon seller on the other side of the road. While he was busy solving the conflicts in his mind regarding the shape and colour of the balloon he wanted to buy,I was being welcomed back to the “real world”.An ice cream peddler and the balloon seller were arguing. The balloon seller had no further space to shift his possessions and the available area was insufficient for the ice cream stall. They best understood each others need but they had their own responsibilities to fulfil first.“Real world”…a world of need,a world of struggle…“need of survival and struggle for survival”.
