"The Unforgettables in Red…" | English Poem

The Bhuj earthquake
Reminds the Republic Day dawn,
With the dreadful breakdown
And the whole day dreary and brown.

No one could forget that hydro morning
That day of a million killing;
Our life, our water turned to turmoil,
The tsunami when caught all in its death coil.

Of the gas leak from the tank of curses,
That gaseous night of Bhopal in 1984 was never forgotten.
The tears and sorrows on the frightened faces:
They checked a thousand dead, fully rotten…

9 years later then, was bombed Bombay…
Scared vigorously, there wasn't a thing to say…
It was…
The month of March; the day of deaths;
The time of blasts, the stopped breaths…

Then came the boon of monsoon rains
But actually rained the blocked drains.
Danced now the plight of cursing polythenes.
In water,
People drowned like the light fishery beans.
It was July 26th, the day of water utter,
Or rather the night to flutter.

Still not convinced, the fate of Mumbai changed,
The 26/11 blasts are very recent and strange.
Uncountable dead, giving a split sorrow on head..
So, the most unforgettable, are actually these moments in Red…
